How Close Are They To The British Government?

So the day the Murdochs came to the side show came and went and anybody that was waiting with baited breath went too, apart from the idiot "pie thrower" who's demented antics ensured a little sympathy for 80 year old Rupert Murdoch, there was little else on show and that was largely down to the Metropolitan police who gave James and Rupert Murdoch, Rebekah Brooks and themselves reasons not to answer thr questions they all knew were coming.

It was obvious what had happened Rebekah Brooks spent 11 hours being questioned under caution last Sunday so she was well briefed about what kind of questions they were going to be asked, all the Murdochs and Brooks had to do was agree on the answers no doubt provided by her very "handy arrest" last Sunday.

Each one of them who was interviewed was contrite, and "humble" looked to be the word of the day. They all wished they had the benefit of hindsight and lamented, "if we had known then what we know now we would have acted differently" and the reason why they "didn’t know" then what they now know  is that someone else did not do their job properly.  Rupert Murdoch said he felt "betrayed" and "let down" by those below him, whom he had relied on to watch over his global business. James Murdoch said he was simply  unaware of the extent of the hacking until several celebrities brought private actions for damages and Rupert Murdoch didn't know millions of pounds was leaving his company in payments to other people in the  of "hush money". James and Rupert Murdoch are expecting the public to believe that huge payouts concerning hundreds of thousands of pounds were being made from the company to certain individuals and no one questioned where those millions of pounds were going and these payments were not even picked up in official audits by accountants and that they did not even request information? What should not be forgotten was that yesterday the Select Committee actually managed to extract details of payments which can only be described as smacking of a huge cover-up.

Rebekah Brooks did not know anything either and was "appalled" to learn of the hacking of Milly Dowler's phone, which has to make her one of two things, she is either the world's most incompetent editor, or she is a complete and utter liar.

It looks as if the dramatic arrest of Rebekah Brooks last Sunday and her subsequent questioning by police done the trick, it helped inform the "terrible trio" otherwise known as Rupert and James Murdoch and Rebekah Brooks exactly what kind of questions to expect from the committee of MPs and allowed them to have pre-prepared answers and now the question which must urgently be put to Sue Akers who is the senior police officer in charge of "operation Weeting", just who sanctioned Brooks arrest and why last Sunday? After all that arrest could have happened at any time in the past few years but someone decided that it should take part just two days before the meeting of the select committee.

No one in this huge multi-national company wants to take responsibility for what happened and the question for Rupert Murdoch, James Murdoch and Rebekah Brooks, is that if they were politicians would they take that lame excuse?  Of course not, they would be screaming for heads and resignations and they would never, ever stop until it happened.

Jeremy Hunt the Culture Secretary said the Murdochs must answer all these criminal acts and the person running the show should know about them - yes they should I agree, then by exactly the same token Jeremy Hunt should have known all about the company he was just about to award the permission to buy up the entirety of BSkyB to News International, ignorance is no defence, however, Jeremy Hunt cannot even claim ignorance because there was plenty of evidence available much in the public domain and certainly more that he would have known about privately, more than enough to stop the Murdochs bid for BSkyB, yet Hunt was within hours of granting News International permission their take-over of BSkyB and because Murdoch had given a couple of flimsy guarantees Hunt was going to grant this without even referring this proposed take-over to the Competition Commission. Jeremy Hunt actually sat on a recommendation to send the bid to the Competitions Commission for over 3 weeks while the prime minister, David Cameron had 26 social engagements and other meetings with certain interested parties at News International, this must break competition law.

Also questions *must* be asked about how far Jeremy Hunt is involved with the Murdochs, after all it is no secret that Hunt admires the Murdochs and has openly said so several times, this aside when the issue of plurality raised its head and Murdoch was edging towards controlling  an estimated 22% of all the news that we would consume daily and without a doubt this would have led to greater power to the unelected Rupert Murdoch, James Murdoch and Rebekah Brooks over our elected politicians – and this is one of the very reasons Hunt should steered clear. Like David cameron, Jeremy Hunt's position was heavily compromised before he took responsibility for judging this take-over.
Yet what did Hunt say in his own defence? That he was still "inclined" to refer the bid for a full review, which could take months, "it is right that I consider any undertakings in lieu". While Hunt was reviewing this it looked at one point if it was going to go the Competitions Commission, then the Murdochs stepped in with a couple of "undertakings", this chance things and Hunt was within hours of signing off the bid.

Once again we see this government's total inability to handle serious issues from NHS reforms to take-over bids, if it were not for other people and the public stopping them, some fatally bad decisions would have been taken by this Tory-led government.

Yesterday's committee session thre up far more questions than answers and there are serious questions for David Cameron and his government to answer. It is not good enough that the Murdochs can just plead ignorance, it is not good enough that Brooks can plead ignorance, it was their job to know what was going on in their company and if they did not know then they failed, they failed to operate the correct corporate governance and anyone else doing this would have paid the price.

Yesterday I saw Britain's top police wriggling on the hook and trying to pass the buck. Perhaps the editor of the Guardian should inform us exactly why Sir Paul Stephenson made an "appointment" to see him? Were the Guardian warned to stop investigating and publishing this information? If so why? Why was Britain's top policeman so worried about what the Guardian was doing? Why wasn't this question asked yesterday at the select committee hearing?

The police, the Tory government and the Murdoch press are far too closely intertwined, apart from the very serious nature of phone hacking, this is the biggest issue to emerge from this whole affair.

David Cameron, George Osborne, Jeremy Hunt, Sir Paul Stephenson, John Yates, Rupert Murdoch, James Murdoch, Rebekah Brooks, Neil Wallis, Andy Coulson, Andy Hayman should be prosecuted and a court of law should be used to get to the bottom of what actually happened. This issue has fast transcended being dealt with by the police, the police cannot investigate themselves, this must now be sorted out in a court of law.

If you look back on previous blog reports on my blog, you will find that I have pointed to this situation for almost a year now. If it was not for the Guardian, Tom Watson, John Prescott, Chris Bryant, Brian Paddick and latterly Ed Miliband, this may never have made public like this.

The victims of phone hacking must always be and the top of the agenda, but this story now is questioning the way this country is policed and governed and how with apparent ease the Murdochs have been able to suppress the truth for years. I have long said that this has the propensity to bring the government down, now we are moving still closer to this happening.

The days of Cameron's appalling, arrogant, dishonest and totally incompetent government are drawing to a close and it is only just over one year old, yet it is mired in sleaze of gargantuan proportions and all roads are leading to David Cameron and the Tories.

Anyone Seen the British PM? Last Seen Boarding a Plane To Africa!

While I was writing my previous blog about the involvement of Prime Minister, David Cameron with Brooks and Coulson, I remarked upon how fast this story was moving, true enough while I was writing Rebekah Brooks was arrested and detained at a police station for questioning and to the best of my knowledge she is still there. No sooner had I included that information and gone offline for a short while the phone hacking scandal claimed another high profile victim when Britain's highest ranking police officer, Sir Paul Stephenson resigned.

All this and still no word from the prime minister, "where is he?" people are asking, well apparently he is on a plane to Africa. The country is sinking in a mire of sleaze, top people are resigning their positions and other high profile people are being arrested all over the place and not a peep out of Cameron, instead he suddenly catches a plane to Africa (apparently), you just could not make this story up!

This is not the first time he has done this, the last time was when Libya was boiling over and hundreds of our nationals were stuck inside the country with no way out.

• Our Foreign Secretary William Hague was acting hormonal and making bizarre untrue statements about Gaddafi and saying that anyway he (Hague) was due to catch a plane to Washington that night.
• The Defence Secretary Liam Fox was seen down the pub drinking with his mates.
• The Health Secretary had all but privatised the NHS causing uproar
• The Home secretary, Theresa May hadn't got a clue who was where or what was going on.
• George Osborne was in hiding refusing to answer questions on our flagging economy
• The Prime Minister was off on an arms selling tour with his arms dealer mates, using his influence in hawking arms to small Arabic countries.
• And our Deputy PM, Nick Clegg had actually forgotten he was in charge of the country and anyway someone else would have to do it because he was off on holiday at 3pm, leaving the country unattended.

This time when Cameron is away, his previous head of communications Andy Coulson has been arrested on charges of phone hacking and corruption and bailed to appear before police in October. Cameron had refused to take advice and hired Coulson  who has links with known criminals and Coulson was actually given "strap one" security clearance, which means he had access to highly sensitive top secret documents affecting the national security of our country. Coulson was in a heavily compromised position and was open open to all kinds of abuse and blackmail, fortunately he resigned before it became a problem.

Rebekah Brooks is a close friend of Cameron's and was arrested on charges of phone hacking and corruption, she admits to paying off police officers in the past.

Sir Paul Stephenson's position as Commissioner of the Metropolitan police became compromised today when it emerged that not only had he dined several times, with the Murdochs, Brooks and Coulson but
the crisis over hacking engulfing News Corporation began to turn toxic for Stephenson on Thursday after the arrest of Neil Wallis, who was the News of the World's deputy editor under former No 10 aide Andy Coulson and during the period when it is alleged phone hacking was widespread at the paper. Hours after Wallis was arrested, it emerged that he had worked for the Met.
Not only all of this, it turns out that Sir Paul also received £5000 worth of free accommodation at a luxury health spa in Tring where Neil Wallis is hired in a position of PR.
In a further deepening plot, Sir Paul has clearly pointed the finger at David Cameron.

"In potentially toxic remarks for David Cameron, Stephenson said he had not mentioned Wallis's appointment to protect Cameron: "I did not want to compromise the prime minister in any way by revealing or discussing a potential suspect who clearly had a close relationship with Mr Coulson.
"I am aware of the many political exchanges in relation to Mr Coulson's previous employment – I believe it would have been extraordinarily clumsy of me to have exposed the prime minister, or by association the home secretary, to any accusation, however unfair, as a consequence of them being in possession of operational information in this regard."

Where is the prime minister? Why isn't he here taking control of this situation? This is deadly serious we have a situation were trust in the police is at an all time low and the British Pm has gone and got himself compromised by becoming too heavily involved with News International.

What's the True Extent Of Cameron's Involvement With Murdoch, Brooks and Coulson?

The creeping corruption of Rupert Murdoch's News International is escalating and now looks to have reached the British government and is starting to envelope the British prime minister, David Cameron. What we have yet to discover is how far the infection has travelled and what it has infected in our government machine.

The role of Rupert Murdoch, his son James, and former CEO of News International Rebekah Brooks to help get David Cameron and the Conservatives into power started at least 2 years before the 2010 general election when James Murdoch and Rebekah Brooks, David Cameron and George Osborne convinced a dubious Rupert Murdoch to drop support for the labour party/government and come out and back Cameron's Tories.

Rupert Murdoch's newspapers the Sun and the now defunct News of the World, the Times and Sunday Times ran what can only be described as a personal and vitriolic hate campaign against Gordon Brown, barely a day or a weekend went past when Brown was not the subject of lurid banner headlines in those newspapers. Brown was absurdly blamed for everything from the banking collapse, to the *global* financial recession, he was personally abused by the Murdoch press on an almost daily basis for little or no good reason, they ran campaigns designed to stir up pure hatred of Mr Brown. Sun headlines about him included, on the day after the G20, the Sun presented him as Dr Evil and another Sun headline accused him of "killing" British soldiers. Then there is the story of L/Cpl Beharry who said in the Sun, that he felt like he wanted to punch Mr Brown because the then PM did not look him (or others) in the eye in a parade. Also the case of a misspelled soldier's name James Janes, where Mr Brown had written a personal handwritten letter of condolence on the death of Mrs Janes son Jamie.  Mr Brown's handwriting contained errors however, both cases are clearly attributed to the fact that Mr Brown is blind in one eye and has greatly reduced vision in the other and yet knowing this the Sun deliberately distorted the stories and purposefully made it look like Brown was callous and unfeeling when nothing could have been further from the truth. In fact it was the Sun's editor, the Sun's journalists and Rupert and James Murdoch and Rebekah Brooks that caused those people grossly unnecessary pain and distress and yet this dreadfully unprofessional behaviour continued unchecked day after day after day and the toothless Press Complaints Commission systematically failed to act in what was obviously an abuse of power by the Murdoch press and far from condemning this abominable behaviour, David Cameron the then leader of the opposition actively encouraged and cashed in on these disgusting and deliberately misleading stories by spinning his own version  of them.

What was happening to Brown in the Murdoch press was a truly astonishing spectacle and the majority of the British so-called "free" press knew it and they also knew what was happening was grossly unfair however, such was the fear held for Rupert Murdoch they did absolutely nothing to balance it or counteract it, and astonishingly in some cases papers like the Daily Mail, and Mail on Sunday actually joined in the "bullying abuse" with their own misleading abusive sensationalistic headlines.

The fact is that the Murdoch press were rampantly manufacturing news stories and not merely reporting them and the evidence is there for all to see and this behaviour has carried on unchecked for years. It is also symptomatic of how the Murdoch press ran their newspapers and thought it OK to use people and felt they was above the law and could hack into the phones of murdered children and fallen soldiers and the relatives of victims of the 7/7 terrorist attack at will and without having to face the consequences of their illegal actions.

The phone hacking scandal reveals just how illegal, amoral and how dirty the Murdoch newspapers had become and all  in pursuit of their goal of owning BSkyB. Incredulously, all the time the Murdochs and Rebekah Brooks were tearing into Gordon Brown for things beyond his control and personally abusing Mr Brown and running stories about his children's health, the Sun, the "News of the World", The Times and the Sunday Times and all who were involved in their stories were lying, cheating, phone hacking and allegedly hacking into emails and personal computers.

The Murdochs and all that fawn at their altar are complete cowards and hypocrites who have thought nothing of callously inflicting pain on innocent defenceless people in deepest grief and suffering their darkest times and lowest points and none of them have shown any compunction whatsoever about destroying the lives and careers of just about anyone who happens to get in their way.  However, even more seriously, the unfortunate victims of their phone hacking have been treated like "commodities" to be spied upon, used and abused and there are no words that can adequately describe the despicable natures of the people that carried out these criminal acts in the pursuance of their materialistic goals. 

The real reason why Murdoch dropped support for the Labour was not because he thought that Cameron would make a better prime minister for Britain, or that the Conservatives would make a better government, it was purely because while in office, the Labour government opposed Mr Murdoch and stood up for what they believed was the public interest. Mr Brown has since said. "As leader of the Opposition, Mr Cameron had “invariably reclassified the public interest as the News International interest.”
Mr Brown says the relationship with the Murdoch press became harder because the Conservative party adopted News International's stance on key media policy issues. He cites: the licence fee, BBC online, the future of sporting events on TV, the fate of the BBC's commercial arm and Ofcom.

Gordon Brown  blocked various Murdoch commercial initiatives long before their final falling-out.
The Labour government prevented Murdoch taking over Manchester United, a plan which was thought to be a dead cert in 1998 but was blocked by the Blair government on competition grounds.

When Gordon Brown was prime minister he argued against Rupert Murdoch's plan to erect paywalls to access the Sun, the now defunct News of the World, Times and Sunday Times online saying that people should not be forced to pay for basic news.

Rupert Murdoch has also attacked search engines, such as Google, whom he accused of stealing journalism from traditional media outlets, he said that the newspaper industry had to stand up for itself and charge for content while using copyright law to defend its journalism from being used without permission, the Murdochs have acted like they own the news and like everything else in their empire if they were not stopped, then we would be charged for it, this was their ultimate goal for the UK.

The Labour government had to rule on BSkyB decision to buy a 16.6% stake in ITV. The government challenged this, and referred it to the Competition Commission.
Ofcom also had to consider the price of BSkyB sports services. Ofcom insisted on fair competition
Under James Murdoch, BSkyB adopted an ever more aggressive approach to the BBC, Brown says. For example, Murdoch wanted the BBC to charge for its web content. But Brown resisted demands like this.
Gordon Brown says he would be happy to give evidence about these matters to the inquiry.

It is clear from all the above where Rupert Murdoch and his son James and Rebekah Brooks wanted to take the British news industry and it is also clear what the Murdochs thought of the BBC and how they wanted parts of the BBC to be placed behind a paywall. In fact it was Rupert Murdoch that has prevented this country from watching some of our national side's football matches and Murdoch was the reason why we were also prevented from watching the England Cricket team play Australia for the Ashes.

2 years ago Gordon Brown called for the Ashes to be one of the "crown jewels" of sporting events that must be available to all TV viewers free-to-air. Yet one of the first decisions taken by the Conservative sports minister Hugh Robertson last summer was to boot that plan into the long grass. Why? When England won the Ashes Test David Cameron came out of hiding over the H1N1 flu jab fiasco caused by his government and and issued a pretty tribute to England's cricketers. But as usual with Cameron it was all talk but he had a choice, he could take the Ashes away from Mr Murdoch but he was too cowardly to do it and the result?  England's Ashes win produces no seedcorn for the future. Meanwhile, Mr Murdoch laughs all the way to his tax-avoiding offshore bank.

Brown also said he proposed an inquiry into the hacking scandal. But he was advised that this would be wrong, because the evidence was not strong enough, because the issue was not urgent and because it was too close to an election. No matter how Sir Gus O'Donnell wants to wriggle his way out of this, the fact remains that he did advise against holding this inquiry and considering how close O'Donnell has now become to the Cameron administration, questions need to be asked about that too. Remembering that it was the head of the Civil Service the Cabinet secretary who urged the Tories and Lib Dems to form a swift coalition for fear that a minority government would spook the markets, he intervened in the dramatic weekend after the General Election to advise the Tories and Lib Dems that they risked market meltdown if there were no stable government in place by the Monday. Once again this country is bowing and scraping to the money markets and the people that actually caused the problems in this country with their greed. It is thought that Sir Gus overstepped his mark and questions need to be asked - why?

It is also becoming increasingly clear that David Cameron and the Conservatives are willing helpers of Mr Murdoch, and perhaps may even be found to be complicit in the Murdochs "wrongdoings" and their bid to get hold of BSkyB and influence policy over newspapers, news programmes and also the future of the BBC.

From the very beginning of David Cameron's premiership it has become clear he is dancing to the "Murdoch tune", there are huge doubts about cameron's ability to be prime minister and there hangs even bigger doubts about his judgement and clearly there are questions that Cameron needs to answer.

Rupert Murdoch was the very first visitor seen by David Cameron in Downing Street on May 10th 2010 after Cameron had taken up residence after the election. Why did Rupert Murdoch enter and leave by the back door of Downing street? and why did David Cameron's staff refuse to say at that time what was discussed at that meeting claiming it was a personal meeting? Clearly it was not and even now with the publication of the list of meetings by Cameron, the details list "general discussion", obviously that was not private and the details of that meeting should be made public, especially in the light of the revelations now being made. cameron also met with Rebekah Brooks on June 10, 2010 in Downing street again for "general discussion"! Since those meetings David Cameron has met with Murdoch's News Corp or parent company News International or staff from the Sun or Times newspaper staff on at least 26 occasions mostly in Downing Street in the year since becoming prime minister. 

David Cameron has also entertained Rebekah Brooks at the Prime Minister's country residence at Chequers on: June 2010 and August 2010 reasons listed as "Media".

 Also at an unspecified date he saw James and Kathryn Murdoch reason also listed as "Media"!

The prime minister lives just 2/3 miles away from Rebekah Brooks and her husband in Cameron's Oxford constituency and they regularly meet to go horse riding together. Christmas 2010, the Camerons attended the Brooks residence for dinner, also a guest at the same time was James Murdoch, who was notable by his absence was the good friend of both Rebekah Brooks and David Cameron, was Andy Coulson, in fact Coulson resigned from Downing Street in January 2011, just a couple of weeks after they all met for dinner at Brooks house. Andy Coulson is said to have been especially close to Rebekah Brooks describing each other as "soul mates" when they worked on the News of the World together and as Coulson was also a close friend of David Cameron, it is strange that he was not on the dinner guest list for "friends" at Rebekah Brooks house over Christmas.  This absolutely reeks of corruption, what was talked about over dinner at Brooks house? The public have a right to know, it is in the public interest and the prime minister should be made  to reveal if Andy Coulson was discussed. It would be difficult to imagine that Coulson wasn't discussed, it would be similar to not talking about the elephant standing in the corner of the room.

Even more bizarrely the prime minister invited Mr Coulson to stay at Chequers in March this year, two months after he quit as Downing Street director of communications following fresh allegations of phone hacking under his editorship at the News of the World and this did NOT appear in the list released by Downing Street which they claim to be an oversight and say it will appear in a full and amended list. Andy Coulson has since been arrested and bailed to appear before the police in October 2011, the police have given him a handy shield to hide behind until then. Andy Coulson was arrested over phone hacking and making illegal payments to the police.

The deep involvement of the Cameron government with the Murdoch empire can be clearly seen in the government's attitude to the Murdoch take-over bid for BSkyB and also their attitude towards the BBC. Cameron straight away refused permission for the BBC to increase its license fees, this was not done for the altruistic reasons that the public could not afford it, it was done purely to starve the BBC of cash for a couple of years and ultimately forcing it into a position of near bankruptcy and no doubt the Conservatives would have announced that the BBC is not paying its way so there  fore will be broken up and sold off,  this is in turn would have cleared the way for a company like BSkyB (if had gone to plan then owned by Murdoch) to have purchased the most lucrative parts of the BBC and then they would have gone behind a paywall too.

Make no mistake the extent of the involvement of David Cameron with Rupert and James Murdoch and Rebekah Brooks is unusually high and convoluted.  Former Conservative PM Margaret Thatcher gave Rupert Murdoch his crucial government breaks, notably exempting the infant Sky TV from the 1990 Broadcasting Act, so Murdoch has a long tradition of being "helped" by the Tory party.

It now appears that Cameron had promised Murdoch BSkyB in return for his newspapers support in the general election and beyond. With part of that deal came Andy Coulson who had resigned from his position as editor of the news of the World who David Cameron was probably made to hire, this was payback for Coulson from Murdoch for resigning in order that the scandal of the News of the World remained suppressed.

Labour's Lord Prescott accused Mr Cameron of being "very much wrapped into the Murdoch operations".
Shadow culture secretary Ivan Lewis said the disclosure of the list of engagements offered "yet more evidence of an extraordinary lack of judgement by David Cameron".
"He hosted Andy Coulson at Chequers after, in the prime minister's own words, Mr Coulson's second chance hadn't worked out.
"David Cameron may think that this is a good day to bury bad news but he now has an increasing number of serious questions to answer."

It appears that all roads seem to lead back to David Cameron and now learning of the arrest of Rebekah Brooks, takes us many steps closer to discovering the truth about how deeply Cameron has become embroiled in this mess. Even now after all these allegations and counter allegations there seems to be a whiff of corruption, the Dowler family's lawyer Mark Lewis has said that Rebekah Brooks arrest by appointment "stinks", coming just two days before her appearance at the Select Committee On Tuesday, this gives her a convenient wall to hide behind.

When all is said and done the prime minister has shown an appalling lack of judgement on just about every issue, policy and reform since coming to power, he and his government have systematically caused mayhem and total confusion. David Cameron appears weak, indecisive and totally incompetent, he also appears to be completely out of his depth and not fit to hold high office, but all this pales into complete insignificance when placed against his judgement over the hiring of Andy Coulson, he ignored the advice of Lord Prescott, Paddy Ashdown, Deputy PM Nick Clegg, the Guardian and just about everybody, the question is why? And this question mark will continue to hang over him until he gives a satisfactory answer. David Cameron has shown this country up many times on the international stage since he became prime minister, but the rest of the world is now looking upon us with incredulity that this could be happening in the UK. Especially now as serious questions have now emerged about Sir Paul Stephenson.

The career of Britain's most policeman is hanging in the balance after it emerged that he accepted a free five-week stay at a health farm promoted by Neil Wallis, a former tabloid executive who was arrested on Thursday in connection with phone hacking.

The full force of this has not yet hit, Rupert Murdoch will be feeling very peeved at the demise of one of his papers, he will also be feeling very peeved that Cameron has not come up with his end of the deal and I suspect that Murdoch is not too happy that a panicking Cameron cut Murdoch, Brooks and Coulson loose in a very spectacular way in the House of Commons last week.

Even the Select Committee has not escaped tarnish, Conservative John Whittingdale ha snow been linked on a personal level to Rebekah Brooks, James Murdoch and Elisabeth Murdoch, how on earth can he be free to chair the committee? There seems no end to the Tories involvement with the Murdochs.


The public have lost faith in the government and the police and we really are in dire trouble and this is not even including the dire mess the Tory chancellor is making of running the British economy, this government have failed on every conceivable front. People heavily connected with this government and David Cameron on a business and personal level are all being arrested, at the end of this people are going to go to jail, how much longer can Cameron cling on to power and to what cost? I have never known anything like this and this government have only been in power just over a year. Cameron has also serious questions to answer over the funding of the Tory party and the sheer extent of their donors involvement with obtaining lucrative government contracts and the "lobbying scandal" the next big scandal to hit this country has not properly broken yet!

The country is now facing a serious loss of confidence in our prime minister David Cameron and the Conservative government and also when the public starts losing faith in the police it's altogether much more serious and a sign that we really are in serious trouble.
 We are fast approaching a time when things are so serious that David Cameron will have absolutely no alternative but to call an immediate general election.

With all of this going on one would expect that our prime minister, David Cameron, would be out taking to the airwaves and explaining what is going on, yet he is nowhere to be seen, save for a coule of appearances which he was compelled to make, he hasn't been seen, he is trying to not to be associated with the bad publicity and like the cowardly incomptent man that he is, he is in hiding.

There are so many twists and turns in the phone hacking saga that it is impossible to keep up with them all, the latest which will be revealed in full in the Independent On Sunday is that Conservative MP for Maldon, John Whittingdale and chairman of the DCMS select committee which will be quizzing Rebekah Brooks, Rupert Murdoch, James Murdoch etc next Tuesday is a friend of Les Hinton who was until his resignation today from News International, Rupert Murdoch's right hand man for 52 years. Les Hinton has already been quizzed by the committee on phone hacking last year where he categorically stated that "Andy Coulson did not know about phone hacking". John Whittingdale is also a friend of Rupert Murdoch's daughter, Elizabeth Murdoch.

John Whittingdale has also previously warned colleagues to lay off the Murdoch cabal for fear of having their private lives examined and when once asked which media figure he most admires, Whittingdale replied "Rupert Murdoch"!

This link to the Murdochs surely makes Whittingdale's position untenable, how can he possibly quiz "friends" properly, especially when he holds such a torch for Rupert Murdoch's achievements?

GP Commissioning Is Already Creating a Two-Tier System

Exclusive: GPs are already operating in a two-tier NHS with different consortia moving at vastly varying speeds towards the Government’s relaxed deadline for taking on commissioning, a Pulse investigation reveals.

Seven GP consortia – now to be rebranded clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) – are already the de facto commissioning organisations in their areas, having taken on 95% or more of their PCTs’ budgets.
But 57% of consortia have taken on no budgetary responsibility from their PCTs at all, with warnings they have almost no chance of being ready to take on commissioning by the original April 2013 deadline.

The Government last week revealed only CCGs that were ‘ready and willing’ would be authorised to take on full budgetary responsibility from April 2013, as part of a package of concessions on the health bill.

But its claims that most GPs would be on schedule to take over commissioning by 2013 are undermined by our findings, which suggest only those areas that were already active with practice-based commissioning are likely to be ready in time. Of 90 PCTs responding to Freedom of Information Act requests, 38 have devolved at least some portion of their budget to local consortia. Some 14 of these, including NHS Suffolk, NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale, and NHS Peterborough, have devolved budgets for prescribing and acute care.
NHS Isle of Wight has handed GPs budgets for first outpatient appointments and follow-ups, prescribing, continuing care, and direct-access diagnostics and imaging. NHS Nottingham City is one of four PCTs to have delegated mental health budgets along with a host of others, including maternity care, elective hospital care, urgent and emergency care, and ambulance and out-of-hours services.

Seven GP consortia now control almost the entire budget, including those in Cumbria, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire, all of which were active in PBC. But 52 areas, including NHS Medway, NHS Leicester City and NHS Plymouth, are yet to devolve any budgets.
Dr Peter Weaving, a GP in Brampton and commissioning locality lead for NHS Cumbria, said: ‘As of April 2011, we have 97% of the budget. It’s taken us three or four years – two to three was optimistic in the extreme. We’re making good progress but it would be disingenuous to say we’ve got it all sorted.’
Dr Nigel Watson, chair of the GPC’s commissioning and service development sub-committee and a GP in the New Forest in Hampshire – where the PCT has yet to pass any budgets to GPs – urged the Government to set an end date for full handover: ‘Quite a lot of consortia will not be ready by April 2013. But there has to be an end point and that’s not been clarified.'
A Department of Health spokesperson said: 'By April 2013, GP practices will be members of either an authorised commissioning consortia, or a “shadow” clinical commissioning group – one that is legally established but operating only in shadow form. This will ensure there is clarity about how different clinical commissioning groups cover the whole country without gaps.
'Were a clinical commissioning group is not able to take on some or all aspects of commissioning, the local arms of the NHS Commissioning Board will commission on its behalf.
'The NHS Commissioning Board will work with the GP practices and other stakeholders in these areas to develop fully operational consortia and hand over commissioning responsibility to them as they become ready, and in doing so, bring to an end the existing two-tier system of commissioning in the NHS.'

The above proves that the government have not been listening and neither have they stopped these reforms, they have just re written them in different language and rebranded them, the government are treating the general public like fools.

Sharp Rise In Home Repossessions - Thanks Gideon!

The number of new repossessions in Q1 2011 increased for the first time in a year and was close to a fifth higher than the number recorded in the final three months of 2010, according to the Financial Services Authority's (FSA) first quarter mortgage lending report. This means repossessions have risen by 17%, signalling bad news for families.

 
“Last year  even though we were just out of recession, repossessions fell quarter on quarter but with the economic recovery stalled, government support for families struggling to make their mortgage repayments cut and more and more people having to claim job-seekers’ allowance, repossessions are starting to rise again.

“The government is letting people down on housing - repossessions are up, homelessness is up and rough sleeping is starting to rise again. We’re risking a vicious circle where by cutting too far and too fast - hitting families and costing jobs - we end up with more people on benefits and fewer in work paying taxes making it harder to get the deficit down. People will rightly be asking where is their plan B?”

To Eat or Heat? Cameron U-turns on Fuel Poverty Bill Spells Abject Misery For Poor, Elderly & Disabled

In amongst all this government's broken promises and the many u-turns, is the plight of many elderly people and poorer families who will without a shadow of a doubt find themselves in dire circumstances this winter. It emerged last week  that the Tory-led government have done another u-turn during a committee session scrutinising the current energy bill, when the government's junior minister, Greg Barker, said that the 2016 target "cannot be reached". This u-turn actually came one week after Scottish power announced they were to raise the cost of gas by 19% and electric by  10%!

Scottish power said the increase which would affect 2.4 million households in the UK, would come into effect from 1 August.
Affected customers will see an average daily rise to a dual fuel energy bill of 48p per day.

 This is seriously bad news it will hit the elderly and those people living on low poor incomes and fixed incomes like the disabled and low wage earners. Along with the 2.5% rise in Vat and soaring inflation, food costs are soaring and many elderly and families will be shivering this winter. In some cases it is going to mean a straight choice between eating or heating! many of the people this will affect badly are those that have already had their benefits cut or their wages frozen - a direct consequence of the Tory-led government's actions to reduce the deficit run up by being forced to bail the bankers out.

The Tory government have already announced plans that they are to *CUT* up to £100 OFF of the elderly's Winter Fuel Allowance which a NON means tested benefit which was introduced by the previous Labour government and which has literally proved to be a life saver in terms of allowing pensioners to adequately heat their homes.

The Conservative government are already in the process of "attacking" the benefits of mentally and physically disabled people through their long and rambling sloppy welfare reforms bill, which was read a third time and voted through parliament by the Tories and the Liberal Democrats last week, it now is being considered by the House of Lords.

The Prime Minister, David Cameron, when in opposition said they would not cut pensioners Winter Fuel Allowance, he repeated it many times, in fact he repeated it in one of the leadership debates which were held in the 2010 general election, don't take my word for it see for yourself.

Pure and Simple Lies

As soon as David Cameron managed to get himself installed into government he reneged on that promise and cut pensioners winter fuel allowance.

How is the government expecting the elderly, the poor, the vulnerable, the disabled, the acutely and chronically sick, the unemployed to keep warm this winter when he has reneged on another of his main pledges to end fuel poverty and as a result of this we have Scottish power putting up their gas by a colossal 19% and their electric by 10%.

How are these groups going to manage to heat their homes and cook their meals and keep warm this winter, when they have already taken a cut in their benefits and some already on low pay are experiencing pay freezes? The cost of getting to work by train or bus has soared too.

David Cameron once boasted that his party was " the best prepared opposition ever" and would be what this country needed a strong stable government. This government have turned out to be the opposite, they are weak, divided and sloppy, the Conservative -led government have been forced into at least 35 u-turns and at least 36 broken promises.
They portray themselves as a "listening government", but these problems where they are forced to u-turn, do not just drop out of the sky, out of the blue they are all discussed and debated in cabinet meetings and some have made it to the Green and White paper stages of becoming law. The NHS bill for example was actually voted on TWICE by the Tories AND the Liberal Democrats before the government was forced to do a u-turn because it met a wall of opposition form medical professionals, the Labour party and the general public and other concerned groups and unions such as the BMA, had it not been for this wall of opposition this government both the Tories and the Liberal democrats would have voted the "Liberating the NHS" reform bills through in their entirety, which would have meant that Tory doning private health companies would have got their hands on our NHS, this is what the Tories wanted them it is still what they want and it is still what they are trying to get.

This is not a listening government this is a sloppy incompetent government out of its depth, headed by a prime minister who admits he doesn't see the need to get up very early and gives his ministers a free hand to do what they like and say what they like and the outcome of all this flip-flopping is a weak indecisive government that keeps being forced to change unworkable policies. The only policy they are sticking to is their policies on the economy which are now being heavily criticised by world leading economists.

On a day when the government has just performed another huge u-turn on the Justice reforms I would like to ask the prime minister how the above mentioned groups are going to afford to heat their homes and cook their meals this coming winter, after he reneged on a promise to end fuel poverty?

These people are going to be forced into a position by this government of either "eat or heating", which would David Cameron chosse for his children or elderly mother?

Tory MP Philip Davies Rakes It In From Taxpayers While Telling Disabled People they Must Work for Less

This is the MP who wants mentally and physically disabled people to treat themselves as second class citizens and offer themselves for employment at less than the lowest rate of the national minimum wage.

The Conservative party came to power after failing to win a majority in the 2010 general election, which technically means that they are an unelected government trying to push through an agenda of cuts and reforms that are causing deep s distress to the mentally and physically disabled, the acutely sick, the chronically sick, the terminally ill, and those recovering from life threatening illnesses. This government are also "attacking" the poor and vulnerable, the elderly, the young, students and women and children are being disproportionately affected. None of what this Tory-led government are doing was in their manifesto and neither was it in the Liberal Democrat manifesto and it was not in the coalition agreement, they are acting like out of control social thugs riding roughshod over people least able to protect themselves and fight back.

The Tories are fostering the belief that every single person who claims benefits is some way a "fraud" or a "welfare scrounger" or is "swinging the lead", what is more in order to get public support on their side to make these swingeing changes in welfare, they are deliberately setting person against person, so much so that disabled people are being physically attacked in the street and verbally abused and generally made to feel worthless and the appalling attitude of Conservative MP Philip Davies has not helped, he said:

“People with a learning disability can’t be as productive in their work as somebody who hasn’t got a disability.”

This is the kind of Tories we have governing our country at present!

Mr Davies wants disabled people to offer themselves for less pay than the national minimum wage to make them less dependent on the taxpayer/state, so it's only fair then that we know just how much of a burden Mr Philip Davies Tory MP is on the taxpayer/state.

First of all a little background on Mr Davies.

He was first elected as an MP at the 2005 general election for the seat of Shipley with a majority of 422 votes, removing the sitting Labour MP.  because he was in a key Tory marginal seat he received donations
toward his successful campaign from Bearwood Corporate Services, a front company set up by the then non-domicile Tory Lord Ashcroft to give out donations to marginal seats such as Davies's. Bearwood has given a total of £5.1 million to the Conservative Party since 2003.

Davies voted against gay and equal rights and has a below average voting record.

"Political Correctness"

Davies is the parliamentary spokesman for the Campaign Against Political Correctness and he has been accused of wasting the Equality and Human Rights Commission's time by sending a stream of correspondence to its Chair, Trevor Phillips, between 2008 and 2009. In this correspondence, he asked questions relating to race and sex discrimination such as: "Is it offensive to black up or not, particularly if you are impersonating a black person?" and "Why it is so offensive to black up your face, as I have never understood this?" Leading some commentators to suggest that he was "lobbying for 'blacking up.'" He also asked whether it was racist for a policeman to refer to a BMW as "black man's wheels" and whether the Metropolitan Black Police Association breaches discrimination law by restricting its membership to black people. Peter Herbert, the chair of the Society of Black Lawyers, said: "This correspondence seems a complete and utter waste of time... he shouldn't be using the Human Rights Commission as basically a source of legal advice."

In March 2007 he voted against the Equality Act (Sexual Orientation) Regulations 2007. He also complained, while calling for a Parliamentary debate on "political correctness", about a school production of Romeo and Julian.

He was called a "troglodyte" by then Conservative MP and current Speaker of the House of Commons John Bercow for his opposition to debating the Equalities Bill, the effect of the recession on women and International Women’s Day.

Islam

In October 2006, after an act of vandalism initially alleged to have been perpetrated by Muslims, The Sun quoted Davies as saying "if there’s anybody who should f*** off it’s the Muslims who do this sort of thing." It was later exposed by The Independent, among others, that the incident never involved Muslims and  The Sun was forced to issue an apology four months later. Davies, however, has not apologised for his comments.

In July 2010 Davies argued it would not be beneficial to allow the United Kingdom Youth Parliament to stage a debate in the House of Commons Chamber because it would create a precedent which would mean organisations such as the Muslim Council of Britain would be able to use the House of Commons.

Global poverty

In early 2010, Davies was criticised by the press and religious organisations for using Parliamentary rules to "wreck" the Debt Relief (Developing Countries) Bill, an anti-poverty measure designed to stop "Vulture funds" from buying up the debt of third-word countries in order to aggressively pursue repayments through the international courts. The bill eventually failed because an anonymous Tory shouted "object", allegedly while Conservative frontbenchers covered their mouths to hide their identity. Douglas Alexander, the then development minister, wrote to David Cameron accusing the Conservatives of deliberately scuppering the bill.

Davies has filled in approximately 18 surveys in 2010 (Remunerated employment, office, profession etc) and received payment of a total of £1.185 for approximately  5 hours 40 mins work - which is approximately £237 per hour (well above the national minimum wage) Of the £1,185 Davies donated  £375.00 to an unnamed charity.

Behind The Unemployment Figures

On the face of it a drop of 88.000, any fall in unemployment and the misery it brings people and families is welcome, but this fall continues to defy the logic, so what is behind it?

First of all the fall in headline unemployment was larger than expected because of the number of  young people entering into higher and further education, this is because students mindful of the Tory government's increase in tuition fees have not taken gap years and gone straight into university in an attempt to beat paying the full fees.

There are still 820.000 more people out of work now than there were before the start if the recession.

Unemployment figures are a lagging indicator, which means they lag behind what is really happening in the jobs market and the economy.

George Osborne's Office Budget Responsibility only expected around 20.000 public sector workers/civil service to lose their jobs,  the Office National Statistics has released figures which show that this figure has already reached 143.000 to the end of March 2011. This is a huge difference and one which the Tories are trying desperately to hide.

Largest Cuts So Far

• Education Redundancies (Teachers/Teaching assistants etc) Minus 24.000
• NHS Redundancies Nurses etc (Cameron supposed to be protecting this) Minus 10.000

The particularly worrying thing about this is these redundancies are all recorded up until March 2011.
All the cuts and job losses being announced last year have not started to take effect commencing April 2011, so the 143.000 people who have already lost their jobs were before the major job cuts were announced and there are still tens of thousands more public sector workers set to lose their jobs in the near future.

This is why all analysts say that unemployment is going to rise.

Also there is a certain amount of "Treasury trickery" in these figures which I will try to explain.

1. Many people who have recently lost their jobs cannot claim unemployment benefits because they have redundancy packages which actually bar them from claiming until their savings dips below a certain amount. They are technically unemployed but do not get counted so do not show on the unemployment register.
2. Workers aged approximately  60 plus who have lost their jobs and who cannot find another job or have no intention of working again and can't claim anything because of savings and pensions. They are unemployed but do not count  so do not show up on any statistics sheet.
3. The total number of 16 to 24 year olds in full-time education increased by 61,000 on the quarter to reach 3.08m many of these young people would have shown up in the unemployment register as leaving the register, but they have not found jobs they have commenced full-time further or higher education.
4. The number of people working part-time also rose by 31,000 to 7.95m and is 178.000 more than it was one year ago while those with second jobs remained high at 1.15m, suggesting hundreds of thousands of people are "underemployed". Many of these people although are not in full-time work would have been taken off of the unemployment register as having found work.
5. Many (I don't have figures) construction workers simply do not claim unemployment benefit although technically unemployed because of the start and stop nature of their work, there are thousands of builders looking for work in a construction industry that is in recession.
6. The number of those people taking temporary jobs will also skew the real number of those unemployed the number of people said to be in temporary employment has now risen to 1.595.000, this is a huge increase of just under 100.000 in the past 12 months.

So already you can see that the drop unemployment numbers can, actually, largely be attributed to an increase in the number of people going into full-time study, and the number of people working part-time because they could not find a full-time job and also the number of people through redundancy packages and pensions etc who cannot claim so are not registered as unemployed.

As to the claimant count, the figures rose unexpectedly by 19.600  to reach 1.49m. However, the figures are skewed by a change in the way benefits are calculated. The Government is moving thousands of single mothers off income support onto unemployment benefits, known as Jobseeker's Allowance. The switch is causing the number of people on the dole to rise dramatically.

If you were to take out the distortion, from part-time workers and students as well as the change in benefits in the claimant count, what you are left with is  what can be best described as a "flat" employment market.

Whether the private sector can absorb the job losses from the public sector remains unclear however there are still the tens of thousands of redundancies to come from the public sector and civil service – still to take their toll on the labour market and 200.000 to lose their jobs in local authorities.
The estimate came from the GMB union, which said it had received official notifications of 90,000 planned full-time equivalent job losses from half of England’s 152 councils. Total redundancies were likely to be more than doubled when part-time, agency and contract workers were taken into account. Since this announcement it has been announced that even more workers may lose their jobs than expected in local authorities.

The claimant count has risen dramatically from an expected rise of 7000 to an alarming 19.600 in just one month, this is very bad for the Treasury as it means we have to pay an extra 19.600 benefits,part of this would be to top up the part time workers who cannot find full-time jobs.
